make the right call.

Four real scenarios — identical UI, cosmetic data variation, a critical regression, and a false-positive elimination that defeats native Playwright.

Scenario A — Cost Optimization
Money Saver: Identical screenshots, zero AI cost.
Both images are pixel-perfect matches. BugHunters Vision stops immediately — no API call, no cost, no latency.

Scenario B — Smart AI
Smart AI: Cosmetic chart variation correctly ignored.
Pixels differ — the Request Volume chart bars shifted (peak 86%→64%) and the metric cards show updated live numbers (CPU 42%→51%, Req/min 1,247→1,389). This is realistic: shared test environments are touched by manual testers too, and data keeps moving. The AI recognises the whole picture as normal live metric variation and passes. Regular Playwright has no way to make this call without hardcoding exact values that break on every data tick.

AI PASS: Normal live data variation across metrics and chart
"CPU rose from 42% to 51%, Req/min from 1,247 to 1,389, chart peak dropped from 86% to 64% — consistent with a routine data refresh in a shared environment. All functional UI elements (Deploy button, sidebar, layout) remain intact."
Scenario C — Bug Hunter
Bug Hunter: Wrong icon on Deploy button — invisible to selectors.
The Deploy button is still there, still visible, still reads "Deploy". Regular Playwright assertions all pass. But the SVG icon inside has been swapped from a deployment arrow to a trash/delete icon — and the AI catches it immediately.
// Regular Playwright — both assertions PASS, regression invisible:
expect('#deploy-btn').toBeVisible();         // ✓ PASSES — button is in DOM
expect('#deploy-btn').toContainText('Deploy'); // ✓ PASSES — text unchanged

❌
AI FAIL: Deploy button icon changed to trash/delete icon
"The Deploy button displays a trash/delete icon instead of the expected deployment arrow — a critical visual regression that could cause operators to trigger destructive operations by mistake."
Scenario D — False Positive Elimination
Phantom Bug: GDPR consent banner fools pixel-diff — not AI.
The QA team created baselines after accepting cookies in a browser session. In CI, every job starts fresh — the cookie consent overlay reappears on every run. Native toHaveScreenshot() reports thousands of differing pixels and fails the build. BugHunters Vision reads the overlay, identifies it as a standard GDPR consent dialog, then evaluates the product page beneath it — and passes correctly. No masking. No workarounds. No selector coupling.
// Regular Playwright — fails every CI run in a clean environment:
expect(page).toHaveScreenshot();       // ✗ FAILS — 142,832 pixels differ
// Workaround: dismiss banner in beforeEach, or mask with locator.
// Both break if the cookie SDK updates its DOM structure.

AI PASS: Standard GDPR consent dialog — not a regression
"A GDPR cookie consent dialog is visible at the bottom of the page. This is standard browser behaviour on fresh sessions without prior cookie acceptance — it is not a UI regression. The core product page is fully intact: NovaPad Pro 15" Developer Edition, price €1,299 with a Save €300 badge, and the Add to Cart button are all correctly rendered."
